Of course the Frozen Four gets its name from college basketball’s “Final Four,” in the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA college hockey tournament starts with 16 teams competing in four regionals, getting whittled down to eight, then of course the final “Frozen Four,” before the NCAA hockey championship game. The single elimination tournament always provides some great moments, with tensions running high as players are competing for their Frozen Four life. Participants in the NCAA hockey tournament are selected in two ways. First, the six Division I conference champions and the rest of the teams are selected by the Championship Committee.

The teams playing in the Final Four will be the regional champions of the 2011 NCAA hockey tournament. The dates for the first round of the NCAA hockey tournament are March 25 – 27, 2011. The host sites for the 2011 NCAA hockey Tournament are:

The 2011 Frozen Four is scheduled for April 7 – 9 at the XCel Energy Center in St Paul, Minnesota, where the University of Minnesota will be the host.
